Dont just stick a pin in a map-plan the right location for your Nursery

Run a quick eye over a map showing all the Day Nurseries in Essex and you’ll find they are widely spread over this fairly large county in the UK.  If you are thinking of starting up your own nursery and you can begin from scratch, you will need to consider your location very carefully.  One good idea might be to try and locate it as near as possible to existing schools.  Parents will be grateful to drop their variously aged children at establishments in the same part of town.

It may be that you are considering taking over an established Day Nursery.  In that case you will have to be secure in your mind that it IS in the right location.  The local Council will send a large amount of information about setting up a Nursery and you would do well to study it carefully and, if possible, ask for financial aid.

In Essex itself you have Chelmsford, Braintree, Colchester, Witham and Maldon.  Witham has around four good nurseries already in the area, Braintree and Colchester too have a good selection and there are loads in Chelmsford.  Be sure that your business will GET business – are there enough children to go around?  It’s better possibly to look for an area which is socially deprived and which doesn’t have much childcare.  The parents though, must be able to pay their fees.  Think how badly you would be affected by another nursery opening nearby – would it ruin your business?  Be sure that you choose a building that has an outdoor space as well as adequate space inside, so there’s room for play indoors and out.
